International expert workshops
Epilepsy Research UK organises international expert workshops to discuss a hot topic in epilepsy research about once every two years.

The workshops are designed to look at areas where recent research has advanced our knowledge of the brain or of the clinical features of epilepsy. Epilepsy Research UK invites the leaders in their fields to each workshop, so the discussion is cutting edge.

We bring experimental scientists and clinicians together, so that both groups can learn from the other and to encourage collaboration between disciplines. Participants find these meetings intensely stimulating, and the discussions have influenced policy at a European level.

Regional networks
Epilepsy Research UK also funds regional meetings of people professionally involved in epilepsy research. They provide fairly informal forums for find out who's doing what work (whether laboratory or clinical) in the area. The idea is to enable researchers to make new contacts outside their usual sphere of acquaintances and colleagues. Having local meetings cuts travel costs and time; we hope this will enable people to attend who would not normally go to the big international or national epilepsy research meetings.
