If you have ever wanted to do an exhilarating challenge for charity here is your chance. We are looking for adventurous volunteers to take part in a series of incredible open challenge expeditions that take in some of the UK's most breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.
Organised as open challenges by Discover
Adventure, these are one-day events over
a distance of approx 26 miles. They are
tough challenges but very rewarding, and
should take a fit walker approx eight to
nine hours to complete. Whether you fancy
dramatic scenery or quintessential English
countryside, or even the streets of London,
there is a trekathon to suit you! The treks
are fully marshalled throughout the day
with water stops along the route. Trip sizes
are for 30+ so it's perfect for groups of
friends to do together.
Transfers from the parking facilities at the Finish to your Trekathon Start Point mean that your car is conveniently waiting for you whatever time you finish. Some of our Trekathons also have good rail links.
The Routes:
South Downs Trekathon, East Sussex
19 May 2012; 18 May
2013
The route starts in the lovely old town
of Lewes and follows part of the famously
scenic South Downs Way. You'll walk over
rolling hills and high ridges dotted with
long barrows and ancient earthworks, often
accompanied by magnificent vistas down to
the sea. You'll tackle stiff climbs and
descents before the spectacular final stretch
over the famous white chalk cliffs of the
Seven Sisters, before finishing on the highest
chalk sea cliff in England - the beautiful
headland of Beachy Head, near Eastbourne.
This is a tough event over rolling downs
and cliffs. Click here
for the full itinerary.
Hadrian's Wall Trekathon, Northumberland 23 Jun 2012; 22
Jun 2013
Hadrian's Wall originally ran from coast
to coast and spanned 72 miles. Today we
are left with only sections of this famous
landmark, which cuts through the Northumberland
National Park. Starting in Carlisle you'll
trek for 26 miles (42km) alongside the wall,
admiring ancient monuments and beautiful
scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This is a challenging walk which will give
you a great sense of achievement as you
finish in Housesteads. Click here
for the full itinerary.
Avebury to Stonehenge Trekathon, Wiltshire 30 Jun 2012; 29
Jun 2013
This is a tough event over the high chalk
downs and ridgeways of Wiltshire and Salisbury
Plain. The magnificent prehistoric stone
circles of Avebury and Stonehenge need little
introduction. Starting in atmospheric Avebury,
you will get up close to the ancient stones
before heading via the famous ancient landmark
of Silbury Hill. You cross spectacular chalk
downs on your way to Stonehenge, dotted
with ancient earth-works, burial mounds
and enigmatic white horses carved into the
chalk. The route takes in the highest point
in Wiltshire (295m) and goes through the
most active crop circle area in the world,
so keep your eyes peeled! Click
here for the full itinerary.
Cheddar to Glastonbury Trekathon, Somerset
28 Jul 2012; 27
Jul 2013
Heading south from the village of Cheddar
you walk the edge of the Mendip Hills to
Cheddar Gorge and on to the small cathedral
city of Wells. You continue on flatter farmland,
finally turning west towards Glastonbury,
famous for its ancient history, mythical
connections and music festival! We finish
our challenge with a final effort to the
top of Glastonbury Tor. This is a tough
event over the hills, farmland and wetlands
of rural Somerset. Click here
for the full itinerary.
London Stadia Trekathon 13 May 2012, 1
Sep 2012; 31 Aug 2013
This challenging day will take you west
into the heart of the City and then meander
your way along the thriving streets of busy
London, through peaceful parks and passing
the slow-paced life on the river eastwards
to our finish point at the O2 Arena. Click
here
for the full itinerary.
Spire to Spire Trekathon, Hants & Wiltshire 8 Sep 2012; 7 Sep
2013

Cathedral into picturesque English countryside.
You'll head west through farmland, ancient
woodland, chalk valleys and quiet villages
to your destination - the magnificent 13th-Century
Salisbury Cathedral. This is a tough event
over the rolling downs and water-meadows
between the historic cities of Winchester
and Salisbury. Click here
