Cotswold 24 hour race for research
5 friends from Gloucestershire have formed a mixed relay team to complete the Cotswold 24 hour race at Cirencester Park on the 4th and 5th of August. The objective is to run as many 9km laps as possible within 24 hours and they are aiming for 27 laps which will be 243 km (152 miles).
Noel Green, one of the entrants says, “Two of us have daughters who have or have had epileptic seizures and the team is very keen to raise as much money as possible for epilepsy research.
We are all regular Parkrunners with Newent being our home course hence our team name of Newent Sole Mates. In training we took on and conquered the Woolacombe Half Marathon which has been voted as one of the top ten toughest Half Marathon’s in the UK. We have also completed 3 9k runs in a day (Catherine managing 4!) and another run at 9am the next day. All of this achieved in the current heatwave.
We are now all trying to increase our weekly training mileage with occasionally doing more than one run a day and some night time running too. We’re not practicing sleep deprivation though!”
We wish them the very best of luck with the challenge – you can support their fundraising efforts on their online page here: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/newentsolemates
